Description – Calisto's Spices - Prego & Chicken Spice 150g

Calisto's Spices - Prego & Chicken Spice 150g is a carefully crafted seasoning blend inspired by traditional Portuguese cooking and the signature flavour profile of Calisto’s-style meals. It combines salt, paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic, onion, herbs, and flavour enhancers to create a rich, savoury spice mix designed for meats and grilled dishes.

The foundation of the spice mix is built on paprika and cayenne pepper, which provide warmth, colour, and mild to moderate heat depending on application. These spices are balanced with garlic and onion powder, which contribute savoury depth and aromatic richness to the blend.

A combination of herbs including oregano, parsley, basil, marjoram, and thyme adds complexity and freshness, helping to create a well-rounded flavour profile that enhances rather than overwhelms the natural taste of meat. This herbal balance is a defining feature of Portuguese-style seasoning.

Monosodium glutamate (E621) and flavour enhancers are included to intensify umami, helping bring out the natural savoury qualities of chicken, beef, and pork. This ensures a more robust and satisfying taste experience when used during grilling or roasting.

The seasoning is designed for versatility in cooking applications. It can be used as a dry rub applied directly to meat before grilling or roasting, allowing the spices to form a flavour-rich crust during cooking. It can also be incorporated into marinades, where it blends with oils and liquids to infuse deeper flavour into proteins.

The 150g shaker bottle provides convenience and ease of use, allowing for controlled seasoning application. The resealable design helps maintain freshness and ensures long-term usability in kitchen environments.

From a culinary perspective, Portuguese-style spice blends are known for their bold yet balanced flavour profiles, combining heat, herbs, and savoury depth. This product follows that tradition, making it suitable for both everyday meals and BBQ occasions.

It is particularly effective for chicken dishes, where it enhances natural flavour while adding a smoky, spicy undertone. It also works well with steak and pork, providing a robust seasoning layer suitable for high-heat grilling.

The addition of sunflower oil and anti-caking agents ensures smooth flow and even distribution, preventing clumping and improving usability during cooking.
